Experimental and Numerical Corrosion-Fatigue Analysis of High-Strength Steel Wire

Original titlemdpi metals 10 734 corrosion fatigue high strength steel wire

Professional source metadata, version and usage boundary.

Curated summary

This open-access paper investigates high-strength steel wire used in bridge cables and hangers. Six fatigue-test groups at different corrosion levels are used to build S-N curves, and a coupled corrosion-fatigue life model is implemented in Abaqus. Increasing corrosion makes the S-N curve steeper and substantially reduces life. The method helps frame corrosion-fatigue risk for spring steels, but different material form and loading prevent direct use as a disc-spring life curve.
